The English Teacher Community in Cimahi recently held two workshops on teaching recount text using a text-based approach. The first workshop was held on Saturday, 19 August 2023, at MTs Negeri Cimahi, and the second workshop was held on Saturday, 2 September 2023, at MTs Fathillah. A total of 25 participants attended the workshops.

The workshops were facilitated by Ms. Rosita, an English teacher from MTs Negeri Cimahi. She started the workshops by introducing the concept of recount text and the text-based approach. She then guided the participants through the steps of teaching recount text using this approach. The steps included:

·         Building knowledge of the field (BKOF): This step involves helping students understand the topic of the recount text.

·         Modeling of the text (MOT): This step involves the teacher modeling the writing of a recount text.

·         Joint construction of the text (JCOT): This step involves the teacher and students working together to write a recount text.

·         Independent construction of the text (ICOT): This step involves students writing a recount text on their own.

In addition to the text-based approach, the workshops also explored the use of Padlet platforms to integrate technology usage within classroom activities. Padlet is a free online platform that allows users to create collaborative walls. The participants learned how to use Padlet to create walls for brainstorming, sharing ideas, and giving feedback on students' writing.

The workshops were well-received by the participants, who found them to be informative and practical. They said that they would use the knowledge and skills they learned in the workshops to improve their teaching of recount text.

The participants also conducted teaching practices (On Job Learning) in three different schools namely MTs Asih Putera, MTs Yanuri Annamira, and MTs Al Musyahadah. During the teaching practice, the teachers applied what they got in the workshop. They were able to help their students understand the concept of recount text and write their recount texts.

The English Teacher Community is planning to hold more workshops on other topics in the future, such as teaching grammar, writing essays, and giving presentations. They hope to provide English teachers with the resources and support they need to improve their teaching.

The community is also planning to create an online forum where English teachers can share ideas, resources, and teaching materials. They believe that this will help to create a more collaborative and supportive environment for English teachers in Cimahi.

The community is committed to providing quality professional development opportunities for English teachers. They believe that this is essential to improving the quality of English education in Cimahi.
